    1. External Dual Layer Dvd Burner

Therefore, in this case, you need a dual-layer (8.5 GB) DVD to burn DMG file to a bootable DVD on Windows and Mac. Make a macOS High Sierra install DVD in Windows PC from DMG/ISO image Apple has changed the file architecture of the macOS installer from OS X Mavericks 10.9. In idvd you get a choice of a single layer dvd disc or dual layer at 7.7gb. I have a project that is larger than 7.7gb. Is there the possibility to use a 8.5gb dvd? Thank you all so much for your replies. I will definately be looking into the Plextor and the Pioneer drives. No offense to the Lacie. To the poster that asked why I do not go with an internal drive here is why: I prefer to keep the old combo internal drive and use the external firewire drive so that I have two DVD readers. I believe in using external firewire since I already have 3 external large HD's. I find them much easier to deal with if I ever have to troubleshoot (which I admit is rarely). Also with just an internal drive if something goes wrong that drive one is in BIG trouble!

Dual Layer: DVD-R DL Double Layer: DVD+R DL Many burners have the words dual format, but they don’t mean that they support both of the 2-layer formats. Also, if you want to be able to burn DVD-Video movie discs to play in your DVD-player, you will want to check for compatibility: Ken Leonard wrote: I am ready to upgrade my single layer DVD burner to dual layer external firewire (400). Having a hard time even finding such a drive.

Sony has one but the info says it is for PC only? The drive must be firewire 400 compatible and able to work on a Mac G4. Any recommends or help most appreciated. Sorry, but this is just plain incorrect.

Sony makes their own mechanism and have for many years. They do OEM their mechanisms to other companys to badge under their own name and with their own roms. Sony mechanisms are considered to be some of the best quality made. I personally prefer Pioneer.

As to Ken, I recommend making your own. Buy a FireWire 400 5.25' enclosure that uses the Oxford 911 chipset. Buy a Pioneer 110 mechanism. Mount the mechanism in the enclosure; don't change any jumpers or such on the mechanism. On your Mac you may need to install a small patch called Patch Burn which is a free download and works perfectly to make it so this latest and greatest Pioneer drive will work with Tiger or Panther. (this is the Pioneer mechanism) (this is a high quality aluminum case with both FW and USB2) Total cost is $98 + shipping riversideray wrote: By the way, Sony drives are nothing more than rebadged Lite-ons.

I'd go with the Pioneer. Just my 2 cents worth. Sorry, but this just isn't correct either. There are a couple of drives that do both DL formats.

The one I prefer is the Pioneer DVR-110. Here is the specs: Cache: 2M CD-R: 40X CD-RW: 32X DVD+R: 16X DVD+R DL: 8X DVD+RW: 8X DVD-R: 16X DVD-R DL: 8X DVD-ROM: 16X DVD-RW: 6X cybermice wrote: Dual Layer: DVD-R DL Double Layer: DVD+R DL Many burners have the words dual format, but they don’t mean that they support both of the 2-layer formats. I use a Plextor PX716A in an external Firewire case (easy to do, if you can handle a screwdriver) Plextor was from BestBuy on a promo and is worth the price. I have tried many others and use this (Px716A) with the iMacIntel Duo and Toast 7.02, fast and reliable combo. Case is here.

I was given some BlueRay disks as a gift and I had no device to play them on in the house. So I picked up the LG 'Super-MultiDrive' BD/DVD/CD so I could convert the disks to play on my mac/apple TV. It was a very simple process. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos.

I had two Optical drives who died, and, i couldn't find a ATA drive replacement. This one comes with a pretty easy to install SATA kit, and after a 10' installation, it worked fine.

No drivers, or anything. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos.

Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Location: Huntington, WV Age: 45-54 Experience Level: Power User Owned Product: less than a month Rating: 4/5 Works Great March 18, 2016 I purchased the LG Super Multi Drive to replace an ailing Pioneer 208BD burner I had installed about two years ago. I have a Mac Pro Mid 2012 running OS X 10.11.3 (El Capitan). The installation of the new LG drive went without a hitch once I was able to remove the front plate of the drive tray (which was a little more difficult than it first appeared).

I have so far burned 4 25GB blu-ray discs without a hitch. The drive just worked-no additional software installation was necessary. It is still early to determine how durable the drive is, as I have had it now only a few days, but so far, so good. While I did not need them, I really appreciated that OWC sent absolutely everything that would be needed to install the drive in terms of cables and manuals. The directions on removing the front plate could be a little clearer for bone heads like myself.

Other than that, everything is perfect so far and I would definitely recommend this drive. I would recommend this item to a friend!
